About the museum
The museum was founded in 1960 in the primary school of the Ehingen district of Rißtissen and is still located directly behind the school entrance. It preserves finds from the Roman fort at Rißtissen and the associated civilian settlement, which in Roman times was called Riusiava.
The collection includes oil lamps, coins, weights, fibulae, hinges, knives, and spear and lance tips. Especially vivid are clay molds from a Roman counterfeiting workshop, roof tiles and household pottery such as urns, pots and jugs, as well as terra sigillata and relief casts. Metal finds and weapons from the Alamannic period are also part of the collection.
A plan of the fort shows how the complex was organized and how far it extended. Because the museum is housed in a working school, visits depend on the school's schedule.
