Schätze des Rotkreuz-Museums

Anniversary exhibition marking the museum’s 25th year, presenting objects from its own collection.

About the museum

In 2000 the DRK district association Fläming-Spreewald began collecting records of Red Cross history. This collection became the museum in Luckenwalde, which has used its own rooms since May 2007; these were expanded in 2012. Since 2014 the museum has been run by a legally independent foundation, the Stiftung Rotkreuz-Museum im Land Brandenburg. The district association is the founder, and the DRK state association of Brandenburg joined as the first additional donor to the endowment.

The permanent exhibition on about 200 square meters shows the history and present of the Red Cross movement from its beginnings to today. The holdings include documents, books, equipment, decorations and teaching materials. One focus is the Red Cross in Brandenburg and historical Prussia, along with the GDR period and the years 1933 to 1945. According to the museum, it is the only Red Cross museum in the state of Brandenburg.

The exhibition is complemented by a publicly accessible specialist library with more than 10,000 media items on national and international Red Cross history. The museum works with its friends' association (since 2008) and the Working Group of German Red Cross Museums, and it especially invites school classes and youth groups.
