About the museum
In 2000 the town of Florstadt acquired the historic property on Altenstädter Straße in Nieder-Florstadt to set up a cultural and arts center and a museum. The cultural center, in the former Saal Lux hall, opened in 2006; the museum followed in March 2011 in the former inn "Waldeslust".
Across just over 120 square meters, the museum tells the history of Florstadt and its districts through archaeological finds, documents and everyday objects, including the municipal charters of Staden and Nieder-Florstadt. A separate section is devoted to motorcycle designer Friedel Münch, who tested his machines in the area. The museum also commemorates the dialect poet and linguist Karl Weigand, the politician Anton Lux, and the Zweckverband Kraftwagenbetrieb Wetterau.
The museum also presents Jewish life in the districts, with a model of the Nieder-Florstadt synagogue; the Florstädter Pflasterer (road-paving craftsmen); 18th-century organ building; and recreated everyday settings, such as a general store from 1925, a shoemaker's workshop, a postwar kitchen and a sewing room.
