About the museum
The toy museum "Die Dachbodenbande" (The Attic Gang) first originated on an old storage loft in Hamburg's Speicherstadt. In March 2011 it moved to Kuhlen-Wendorf in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Across about 450 square meters, it displays toys of bygone times in the setting of an attic.
The exhibition relies on recreated locations: the Rummelplatz (fairground), a Zille-Hof and a playroom form self-contained spaces, and toys are kept in chests, drawers and tins. Items include a brown bear in a chest of drawers from 1910 and a wooden doll's kitchen in a wall cupboard from 1920. Seven plush animals, the "Dachbodenbande", symbolically watch over the collection.
