About the museum
The Neckarsulm city museum makes the town's history accessible as an adventure journey. It is housed in a building erected in 1545 and later rebuilt. The museum regards the house itself as its most important exhibit, since it has witnessed the fates and life stories of centuries.
The permanent exhibition combines original objects with media scenarios in historic settings. With the large "Rad der Zeit" (Wheel of Time), visitors move through the eras multimedially and can explore details of individual events. The stations range from a unique Bronze Age find through the town's eventful medieval history and the rule of the Teutonic Order to the history of viticulture and the beginnings of industrialization.
A bunker scenario makes the developments of Nazi terror tangible, while a living room of the Wirtschaftswunder takes visitors into the 1950s. Radio plays, videos and projections address several senses. The house also offers its own programs for families, primary schools and children's groups, including a hands-on exhibition on the emergency services.
