About the museum
The Old Town Hall of Schlüsselfeld was built in 1723 and comprehensively renewed after a fire in 1948. Until 1967 it then served as a school, later again as the municipal office, and from 1978 it stood empty. At the end of the 1980s the building was restored to create a house of culture or local history museum; several small rooms were converted into four halls with a combined area of 200 square meters.
Since 1993 the town museum has presented the history of the town as well as themes from geology, ecology and folk culture of the Steigerwald. The museum sees itself as a hands-on museum where touching is expressly welcome.
Another focus is European porcelain history, with the Reichmannsdorf manufactory from the late 18th century. This resulted in a special collection of porcelain salt shakers, one of the largest of its kind. The museum also organizes the cultural series “Kultur in alten Mauern” (Culture in Old Walls).
