Since 2003 the Städtische Galerie has been housed in the Stadthaus in Scharnhauser Park, an award-winning new building in the young district of Ostfildern. The focus is on contemporary regional art from southwestern Germany; the city is also building a collection of contemporary art from Baden-Württemberg.
Each year the gallery presents four new exhibitions, accompanied by public guided tours, workshops and educational programs. Art education for children is especially important, and the gallery works with primary schools in the area. An art lending service makes works from the collection available to borrow, and there is public art in the district. A volunteer team supports the gallery's operations.
