About the museum
The core of the collection goes back to firefighters from Fürstenberg (Oder) who, directly after the Second World War, saved records of firefighting history from loss. The holdings grew so much in the following decades that construction of a dedicated museum began in 1986.
On June 13, 1992, the house opened as the third department of the Städtisches Museum Eisenhüttenstadt. The collection now comprises more than 50,000 objects and is considered one of the most important of its kind in Germany. Since May 25, 2017, it has been the first fire museum in Brandenburg certified under the criteria of the international fire service association CTIF.
The maintenance and preservation of the equipment is carried out largely on a voluntary basis by members of the Freiwillige Feuerwehr (volunteer fire department) Eisenhüttenstadt and the association “Freunde und Förderer des Feuerwehr- und Technikmuseums” (Friends and Supporters of the Fire and Technology Museum). Twice a year, in May and October, Dixieland concerts take place in the exhibition hall.
