October 17, 2026 – February 26, 2027
Exhibition marking the 70th birthday of the Eisenhüttenstadt photographer Bernd Geller, on the path from the analogue image to the digital file.
The museum is housed in a villa built in 1906 for Carl Reiche, director of the steamship cooperative of the Oder shipping trade, in old Fürstenberg (Oder). It opened as the Städtisches Museum in December 1980. In 1992 the fire brigade and technology museum was added as a separate department, and in 1994 the Städtische Galerie in rooms on Oderstraße.
The permanent exhibition on the town's history begins with Fürstenberg and its traditional trades such as basket-making, glassmaking and shipping, describes industrialisation and the glass industry, and commemorates the prisoner-of-war camp STALAG III B, one of the largest in Brandenburg. The largest room is taken up by the history of the planned town built from 1950, which was named Stalinstadt in 1953 and Eisenhüttenstadt in 1961. A fully furnished shoemaker's workshop from around 1900 and a historic wash house in the courtyard are also part of it.
The gallery, with ten rooms on two floors, shows changing exhibitions from the extensive art collection, which consists mainly of GDR painting, graphic art and small sculpture, including the estates of the painter Otto Schutzmeister and the sculptor Herbert Burschik. The holdings also include around 100 sculptures and site-specific artworks in the urban space.
