About the museum
The Stormarnsches Dorfmuseum was founded in 1971 to show the history of the Stormarn villages and the transformation of rural culture. Since 1978 it has been housed in a farm complex in the old village center of Hoisdorf, which the municipality took over and had thoroughly restored.
The centerpiece is a thatched half-timbered hall house (Fachhallenhaus), built in 1756 by the blacksmith Martin Friedrich Duwejer, a descendant of Huguenot immigrants, as a village smithy. Over time agriculture gained importance, and at the beginning of the 20th century an extension with a stable, milk room and workshop was added; today the large exhibition room is located there. After the Second World War the farm was abandoned and fell into disrepair. A carriage house was later built for vehicles, agricultural machinery, a bakehouse and storage.
The collection now comprises more than 10,000 objects from agriculture, crafts, households, the village shop and the village school. In addition there is a prehistoric and early historic section with finds from the Ahrensburg Tunnel Valley, a bird collection, beekeeping, and separate rooms for the sculptor Richard Kuöhl and the poet Hermann Claudius. The house is run by the municipality of Hoisdorf and a volunteer team; in 2018 and 2023 it was certified by the Museumsberatung Schleswig-Holstein.
