About the museum
The Tauberländer Dorfmuseum is located on the market square of Weikersheim, in a 16th-century granary that stands between the church and the castle. According to the State Office for Museums, the collection has been housed there since 1972. The museum recalls the everyday life of ordinary rural people. It is run by the association Tauberfränkische Volkskultur e. V.
Across more than 1,000 square meters and three floors, over 2,000 objects from village life in the 18th and 19th centuries are on show: rural furniture, everyday utensils, costumes and work tools. The exhibition shows farming, viticulture and livestock practices before industrialization, and makes clear how communal village life was and how thriftily people used raw materials. The one-hour guided tours draw comparisons with today, show how hard the work was back then and what can be learned from earlier methods. The association supplements the museum with events throughout the year.
