About the museum
The Weinmuseum is devoted to winegrowing in Röttingen and the Tauber Valley, which was already practiced here in the early Middle Ages. Around 1570, the vineyard area in the region reached its greatest extent. Today the local winegrowers farm their own sites and market, among other wines, the Röttinger Feuerstein.
The exhibition is housed in the southern part of Brattenstein Castle, in the complex's tithe barn. It shows historical working tools from various eras, traditional winegrower clothing, and photos and objects on geology, winegrowing and cellar work. Digital displays explain the work in the vineyard and the cellar over the course of the year.
Further topics are the regional grape varieties, the Bocksbeutel as a typical Franconian bottle shape, and options for storing wine. The museum was until now a free-admission facility of the town of Röttingen; according to the town, it is currently closed until further notice.
