About the museum
The sawmill in Tambach-Dietharz can be traced back to 1645. Of the village's 13 mills, it is the only one that has survived, and it is therefore preserved as a technical monument.
The centerpiece of the museum is the sawing device “Altes Gatter” (old sawing frame), which is started up during the tours so that visitors can experience live how a historic sawmill worked. In addition there are further historic machines and documentation on the tradition of sawmills and timber processing in the region.
Since summer 2022 the sawmill museum has also been an official wedding venue of the Tambach-Dietharz registry office.
