About the museum
The Waagenmuseum on Waldstraße in Wachenheim brings together around 500 scales and more than 1,000 weights. The exhibition ranges from simple wooden scales through apothecary and precision scales to heavy railway station and butcher’s scales.
Special items include an English jockey scale from 1850, on which people were weighed while seated. Other pieces include beam scales, a medieval town scale, marble-clad butcher’s scales from the early 20th century, a French barrel scale, and one of the early scales that displayed both weight and price. The large models are on the first floor and in the courtyard.
