About the museum
The Wegmachermuseum on the southern edge of Wasserburg am Inn is devoted to road maintenance. Until the mid-20th century the Wegmacher (road maker) had the task of keeping roads in repair; today this has become the recognized apprenticeship of road maintenance worker (Straßenwärter). The museum is run by the Staatliches Bauamt Rosenheim (state building authority) and housed in the road maintenance depot.
Around 1,500 exhibits and documents show the nearly 200-year development of path, road and bridge construction in Bavaria. According to the museum it is a unique collection in the state. On display are, among other things, steamrollers from around 1900, old road signs, road breakers, forced mixers, stone crushers and a tar sprayer. For winter service there is a large Russian model as well as snow blowers and snow throwers.
