About the museum
The collection "Wasserburg aus fünf Jahrhunderten" is housed in the former Heilig-Geist hospital at the Brucktor. The collector Bernd Joa donated the items to the city of Wasserburg am Inn in 2007.
Across four floors, the collection shows art and decorative objects from the city's history: paintings, prints and sculptures by Wasserburg artists, as well as ceramics, silver, pewter, snuff boxes, textiles, and historical molds for stucco and clay ornaments and for Lebzelten (traditional honey cakes). The oldest piece dates from 1600, the most recent is a painting from 2015. Around 2,500 exhibits mostly show secular subjects; three rooms are devoted to sacred themes, including a documentation of the seven monasteries of the former Altlandkreis.
The "Wasserburger Saal" is especially highlighted, with paintings by artists such as Otto Geigenberger, Hans Ganser and Willi Reichert. The Brucktor itself displays the first printed city map of Wasserburg, from 1815. The collection can be viewed on regular open guided tours.
