About the museum
The WeltKunstMuseum has been housed on the ground floor of Altrandsberg Castle near Miltach in the district of Cham since May 1998. The castle is a four-wing complex from the 16th and 17th centuries, which was renovated by the municipality of Miltach; the municipality also runs the museum.
The thematically arranged display cases present detailed replicas of art and cultural objects whose originals are scattered across museums worldwide. The replicas are provided on permanent loan by the company ARA Kunst, based in Miltach. The route spans from the Stone Age through the Bronze and Iron Ages, the Celts, Scythians and Thracians, ancient Egypt and Crete, up to Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque art; visitors encounter, for example, the bust of Nefertiti and Rodin's "Thinker" as replicas.
In the vaulted cellar, a spatial installation by the artist Andreas Pregler on the theme "Das letzte Abendmahl" complements the display.
