Upcoming exhibition on the art of magic in variety theatre; opening on 14 November 2026 at 15:00.
April 26, 2026 – October 31, 2026
The exhibition explores how writers portray the world of illusion and magic in literature.
The Zaubermuseum Bellachini sees itself as a memory of the ephemeral art of magic. It opened on December 18, 2022 at Hansaplatz in Hamburg and, by its own account, is Germany's only museum of magic and art. The foundation is the collection of magician Wittus Witt, who has shown his pieces in more than 40 exhibitions in museums in Germany and abroad since the late 1970s.
The name recalls the magician Samuel Berlach (1827–1885), who was the first to use the stage name Bellachini and was one of the best-known magicians of the 19th century. Many later colleagues also called themselves Bellachini, so the name stands for a long magic tradition.
The collection includes more than 4,000 publications on magic, over 2,000 magic boxes, around 1,200 posters, as well as dealer lists, catalogs and programs. The historical magic boxes have several times made it into the Guinness Book of Records. Visitors can scan QR codes to see objects in action and try out two tricks themselves at two stations. Changing special exhibitions and evening performances in the ZauberSalon complete the display.
