Rare originals and previously unknown works by Heinrich Zille from private collections, including reworked prints, coloured etchings, colour drawings and pencil sketches. Extended until December 2026.
About the museum
The Zille Museum was founded to create a lasting place in Berlin for remembering Heinrich Zille (1858–1929), the city's 80th honorary citizen. It is financed entirely privately; it is run by the Heinrich Zille Freundeskreis e.V. and goes back to the commitment of Zille's great-grandson Heinjörg Preetz-Zille. After a thorough revision, the house reopened in 2007 with a new exhibition.
After a further renovation and redesign, the museum reopened on December 1, 2024 on Propststraße in the Nikolaiviertel. The exhibition has since been arranged in eight thematic areas, including Zille's milieu, his line, his humor and his artist friends. New additions include busts, a relief and loans such as personal letters; Zille's easel with stool and his death mask are also on display.
With more than 150 exhibits – drawings, lithographs, books and photographs – the museum honors Zille as a social chronicler of the big city as well as a draftsman, graphic artist and photographer. Excerpts from the film "Det war Zille sein Milljöh" are shown in a small cinema room. A separate room is devoted to the artist's erotic drawings.
