About the museum
The museum came into being in 2011 from the collecting passion of Dinus Voß, who was given his first bicycle bell cover at the age of 14. Together with his wife Franziska he runs the house as a private museum in a converted barn from the 1960s, in the countryside in the village of Wybelsum.
In period settings with a re-created street and shopfronts, the exhibition shows the more than 200-year development of the two-wheeler. Among the oldest pieces is a pedal-cranked velocipede from 1869. Alongside are bicycle auxiliary engines from the 1920s and 1950s, as well as motorcycles; brand names such as Phantom, Flottweg or Cockerell greet visitors at every turn.
One focus is the East Frisian history of cycling and mobility, with pieces from cycling clubs, bicycle dealers and smithies, such as trophies, pennants, steering head badges and bell covers. The Museumsverband Niedersachsen und Bremen has rated the house's restoration concept positively.
