About the museum
The Archaeological Collection of Kasos is housed in a traditional building in Fry, the island’s capital. It has been in operation since 2005 with support from the programme “Museums on Small Islands” and presents the ancient history of Kasos on a small scale.
The exhibits cover the period from prehistory to Early Christian times. They include pottery, coins and finds from the Ellinokamara cave, Hellenistic inscribed slabs from the acropolis of Poli and Minoan objects from Chelatros.
The collection also hosts an exhibition on Kasos’s part in the Greek War of Independence of 1821 and the massacre of 1824, as well as a small collection on history and folklore. A traditional Kasos house has been recreated in the basement.
