About the museum
The Laografiko Mouseio Menetes is housed in a small two-storey building more than two hundred years old, on the slope of Profitis Ilias, in the village of Menetes on Karpathos. The building was originally designed as a small church, but the plan was never completed. The ground floor served as the village ossuary until 1995, when it was converted into a museum. Carved tombs can be seen at the entrance, and the upper floor retains a floor of white and black pebbles.
The upper floor presents the village’s daily life, with musical instruments and old photographs, while the ground floor displays farm tools and traditional kitchen utensils. The exhibits, together with furniture and folk art objects, show how the residents of Menetes lived and worked.
