About the museum
The sanctuary of Nemean Zeus, protector god of shepherds and livestock farming, rises in the largest vine-growing area in Greece. The most important structure is the temple of Zeus, built in 330 BC, which combines the Doric, Ionic and Corinthian orders. Around it stood buildings and monuments of the Nemean Games, which were held in rotation with the games of Olympia, Delphi and Isthmia. Three Doric columns survive, and three more that were re-erected by the American professor Stephen Miller.
The Archaeological Museum of Nemea, within the archaeological site, was built with financial support from Americans and donated to the Greek state in 1984. It houses finds from the Early Helladic to the Early Christian periods, from ancient Nemea, Kleonai, Phlius and the Mycenaean cemetery of Aidonia, from which the gold jewellery of the 15th century BC stands out.
The same ticket is valid for the sanctuary of Zeus, the ancient stadium and the museum.
