About the museum
Corinth was one of the wealthiest trading centres of the ancient world, thanks to its position on the Isthmus. Around the Temple of Apollo, dating from 560 BC, and the theatre, the city’s political and religious life was organised, while large parts of it have been uncovered by excavations that began in 1896 and continue to this day. The archaeological site lies in the shadow of Acrocorinth, the fortified acropolis of the ancient and medieval city.
The Archaeological Museum of Ancient Corinth was built in 1932 by the American School of Classical Studies, which conducts the excavations. It lies inside the archaeological site and has been almost entirely renovated. It presents prehistoric collections, finds from the Asklepieion and objects from the Geometric period to the Byzantine period.
Highlights of the exhibition include the twin kouroi from ancient Tenea, an outstanding example of Archaic sculpture. The ticket is valid for both the archaeological site and the museum.
