About the museum
Ancient Kassopi was an important mainland town that preserves many elements of its urban layout and its impressive fortifications. It lies on a natural “balcony” at an altitude of 650 metres, on the slopes of Zalongos, with a healthy climate and an outstanding view over the Ambracian Gulf and the Ionian Sea.
The houses were organised in building blocks, with a drainage system and a water network, while the public buildings testify to a high standard of living. The theatre, with its impressive polygonal masonry, has an ideal orientation. The Katagogio was the commercial market of the area. At the south-western edge of the town the only example of a tomb of Macedonian type in Epirus was found.
