About the museum
Set in a sea of olive trees, Monastiraki is a living monument with traces of life and culture that span many centuries.
Visitors encounter monuments from different periods: from the important palace centre of Protopalatial Crete (1900–1700 BC) at the site of Kokkinos Charakas, to the ruins of Hellenistic times and the Byzantine churches, and to the village of the same name, which has been declared a traditional settlement.
