About the museum
Casa Parlante is a historical museum in a 19th-century mansion in the old town of Corfu, a few metres from the Liston and the Esplanade. It opened to the public in March 2014. The museum recreates the everyday life of the island’s aristocracy in the 19th century, when Corfu was a cultural centre and the mansions reflected the position and customs of each family.
With moving figures operated by robotic technology and reproductions of decoration and furniture, the house “comes to life” before the visitor. The experience appeals to all the senses: the children of the family can be heard playing music, the cook’s cooking can be smelled, and the headlines of the count’s newspaper can be read. Visitors thus get to know the island’s traditions through images, sounds and smells.
