About the museum
The Municipal Railway Park of Kalamata has been in operation since 1986 as Greece's first open-air thematic railway museum. It was created on the site of the old railway station and covers an area of 54 stremmata at the southern end of the OSE park, so that the historic material is integrated into the natural landscape.
The exhibits include the station with its two-storey station master's building, four boarding platforms, a water tower, locomotive water cranes and a metal footbridge 28 metres long. The rolling stock consists of seven steam locomotives and one diesel locomotive, two railcars, a hand-operated crane of 1890, passenger vehicles of 1885 and freight vehicles of various types from 1885 to 1947. The carriages also host municipal activities.
The park's paths, shady spots and playgrounds make it a popular stop for families.
