About the museum
The Folklore Museum of Paxi was founded in 1996 by the Cultural Association of the island and is housed in a traditional building from the early 20th century in Gaios.
The exhibits present the history of Paxi, from prehistory and the Classical period to the Balkan Wars and the epic of 1940. The most important are the resolution of the Ionian Assembly of 1864 on the union of the Ionian Islands with Greece, and the book by Archduke Ludwig Salvator, who visited Paxi in 1884–1885 and described the island in detail. The museum also has a reconstruction of a traditional room with objects from the past.
