About the museum
The museum is housed in a renovated neoclassical building from 1920 with Art Nouveau elements, designed by the architect Vasileios Tsagris. The building lies on the border of Thiseio and Psyrri and was acquired in 1992 by the sculptor Alex Mylona. The museum was founded in 2004 to present her work and to give space to young artists.
Today it operates as the Department of Contemporary Sculpture of MOMus – Museum of Contemporary Art, of the Metropolitan Organisation of Museums of Fine Arts of Thessaloniki (Mitropolitikos Organismos Mouseion Eikastikon Technon Thessalonikis). It promotes sculptural expression, supports young sculptors and highlights the artistic contribution of Alex Mylona through the permanent presentation of her works.
The works of Alex Mylona (1920–2016) include sculptures, watercolours and drawings, and trace her development from her first human-centred compositions of the 1950s to abstract sculptures in wrought iron and her later curved forms.
