About the museum
Since 2010, fossils and archaeological finds from the nearby petrified forest have been displayed in the primary school of Nostimo. The exhibition is in a fairly spacious room of the school, while the school yard has been converted into a park with petrified tree trunks.
The trunks are 5 to 10 metres long and 40 to 80 centimetres in diameter and belong mainly to palms of a forest of tropical and subtropical plants of the Lower Miocene, 15 to 20 million years ago. The collection also includes marine invertebrates such as starfish, sea urchins and shells, a shark jaw and teeth, a tooth of the mastodon Anancus arvernensis about 3.5 million years old, as well as Neolithic tools from the 4th millennium BC.
