About the museum
The Digital Museum of the Academy of Plato opened on 26 November 2015. The building was constructed by the Municipality of Athens, while the Foundation of Greater Hellenism undertook the architectural design, the museological study and the production of the exhibits within the project “Academy of Plato, The State and the Citizen”. Since December 2015 it has been run by the Municipality of Athens Organisation for Culture, Sports and Youth (OPANDA).
The exhibition works as a journey through time. It starts in today’s neighbourhood of the Academy of Plato and leads back to the threshold of the philosopher. In the first room Plato is presented as a historical figure and the archaeological site, in the second his work and his methods, and in the third the way in which his thought travelled through the centuries. Interactive exhibits and digital reconstructions invite visitors to take an active part.
