About the museum
The castle is mentioned in a charter of 1291 as Castrum Boldua; at that time it consisted only of the Öregtorony (Old Tower) and a cistern. After I. Károly defeated the army of Csák Máté at the Battle of Rozgony, the castle came under royal control and was granted to Drugeth Fülöp, a supporter of the king of South Italian origin. The palace wing was built beside the Old Tower in the mid-1330s by the palatine Drugeth Vilmos.
