About the museum
The Vizsoly Bible, printed in Vizsoly in 1590, is the first complete Hungarian-language Bible and one of the hungarikums. Frescoes from the 12th and 14th centuries can be seen on the Gothic walls of the Reformed church in Vizsoly, and the church is surrounded by a fortified wall.
The reception building of the visitor centre is the Bibliás Könyvesház (Bible Bookhouse), with a painted coffered ceiling; tickets are sold here, valid also for the Bible exhibition in the church and for the guided tour of the Mantskovit Bálint Nyomtatástörténeti Múzeum (Mantskovit Bálint Museum of Printing History) in the churchyard. The museum has four rooms: the first two present a printing history exhibition with original and period-authentic machines, and the other two show the exhibition “A bortól a Bibliáig” (From Wine to the Bible). A selection is also drawn from the 17th–19th-century editions published after the Vizsoly Bible and from the history collection of the congregation.
Visitors can try printing on a period-authentic 16th-century printing press and print the first page of the Vizsoly Bible as a souvenir.
