About the museum
The Debreceni Irodalom Háza is the Péterfia utca exhibition venue of the Déri Múzeum. The institution presents the literary traditions of the town and mounts exhibitions supplemented by interactive museum education investigations.
The permanent literary exhibition Álmodó magyarok – Történetek Debrecen irodalmából (Dreaming Hungarians – Stories from Debrecen’s Literature) opened in 2014 under the curatorship of Lakner Lajos. It does not tell the whole literary history of Debrecen; instead it highlights a few characteristic nodes that are still relevant today, and it aims to make the literary past of the town known. The exhibition is currently not open to visitors.
The building also houses the Medgyessy Ferenc Emlékkiállítás (Medgyessy Ferenc Memorial Exhibition). The Déri Múzeum has cared for the legacy of the sculptor Medgyessy Ferenc since 1977. The renewed display shows the sculptor’s early sculptures, drawings and reliefs, with a reconstruction of the Százados úti studio. Special emphasis is placed on the sculptures of dancing figures and horses, the designs for the allegorical sculptures of the Déri tér, and other sculptures in Debrecen’s public spaces. The house also hosts temporary literary exhibitions, for example Adybandi ébresztése (on Ady Endre’s years in Debrecen) and REJTŐzködő Irodalom (on Rejtő Jenő).
