About the museum
The Tímárház (Tanners’ House) is the only industrial-history monument of Debrecen preserved on its original site. On the intimate-courtyard property built in the early 1900s, the Debreceni Művelődési Központ (DEMKI) runs a creative house, where traditional folk crafts are presented and taught. In the former drying workshop a permanent exhibition on tanning recalls the long-established leather industry of Debrecen; a separate display presents the works of folk artists from Debrecen and its surroundings, selected from the collection of the Kézműves Alapítvány (Craft Foundation). Potters, embroiderers, cheesemakers and soap-makers work in the workshops.
