About the museum

Egry József, a painter also known as the painter of Lake Balaton, lived and worked in Badacsony. His villa-like home with studio still stands on Egry sétány, which bears his name. Since 1973, on the 90th anniversary of the painter's birth, the home of the artist and his family has welcomed visitors as a museum.

Egry was obsessed with Lake Balaton: from countless viewpoints and at different times of day he painted the endless surface of the water, the misty light and the view of the twin peaks seen from Fonyód. His art cannot be compared with that of anyone else; he is one of the outstanding figures of twentieth-century Hungarian painting.

In the extended studio house a rich selection of his major works can be seen, and his whole career is outlined in brief.
