About the museum
The Pannonia Reformata Museum opened its doors in May 2018. Thanks to the reconstruction of the Old Church (Ótemplom), built in 1783 in line with the rules of the Türelmi Rendelet (Edict of Toleration), of the associated parsonage and of the courtyard building, the sacred space can be seen in its former beauty. The Old Church, together with the Pápai Református Kollégium (Pápa Reformed College), founded in 1531, is a historical memorial site designated by the Nemzeti Örökség Intézete (National Heritage Institute).
The permanent exhibition “Hajlék az örökkévalóságban” (A Dwelling in Eternity), housed in the gallery of the Old Church, presents the past and present of the Reformed heritage of Transdanubia, combining theology, religious ethnography and interactive museum education. The museum is a living church museum: alongside the exhibition, church, community and cultural events and concerts also take place here.
In the vaulted cellar of the former parsonage, the Egyptian exhibition “Hori titkai” (The Secrets of Hori) can be seen. At its centre stands an ancient Egyptian coffin and mummy more than three thousand years old, with a facial reconstruction; the sarcophagus was given to his former school, the Pápai Református Főiskola (Pápa Reformed College), by Markstein Károly, a wholesaler from Cairo. From Fő utca, the Pannonia Reformata Kávézó és Vinotéka (Café and Wine Bar) leads to the museum.
