About the museum
The owner of the collection, Rugli Dezső, worked as a bricklayer on many buildings of monument character and has been collecting bricks since the 1970s. The imprints and monograms visible on the bricks sparked his interest, and he then began researching the origin of each piece. A collection of several thousand pieces has since come together, and he knows the origin and date of every item in it.
The bricks are displayed by era in separate display cases: ancient (mainly Egyptian), Roman, Árpád-era and Ottoman-era pieces, as well as manorial and count’s bricks. A separate display case presents the bricks made in the Szany territory, including a piece of the Árpád-era church that once stood there. The collection also includes bricks with mosaic decoration fired by the owner himself.
