About the museum
According to tradition, the history of the Catholic community of Gyöngyös goes back to a church founded by King Stephen (Szent István király), and this continuity survived even the Ottoman period. The Franciscans, the Jesuits and bishops from the town also played a role in preserving the faith.
The Szent Bertalan Vallásturisztikai Látogatóközpont és Kincstár (St Bartholomew Religious Tourism Visitor Centre and Treasury) operates beside the church. Its permanent exhibition displays goldsmith's works, textiles, books and Stations of the Cross; from the visitor centre the church, the tower viewpoint and the lapidarium can also be seen. QR codes in the exhibition rooms and at the Stations in the courtyard provide further information, and a virtual walk is also available in the collection.
