About the museum
Kisnána was the estate of the Aba clan. Its predecessor, Egyházasnána, the forerunner of today’s village, already existed in the 12th century; the forerunner of the castle chapel stands where its church was. At the beginning of the 13th century, István, a member of the Kompolti family, which emerged from one branch of the Aba clan, had the first noble manor house built next to the Nána parish church.
Kompolti János, master cupbearer, built a new manor house on the church hill in the mid-15th century and developed it into a fortified castle with a palisade wall; later it was surrounded by a stone wall and a stone gatehouse. The Diet of 1445 already mentions it as a newly built castle. After the Kompolti family died out in 1521, the estate passed to the Guti Ország family; in 1543 Csulai Móré László held the castle, which the pasha of Buda besieged in the same year. The ruined castle was no longer restored in the second half of the 16th century.
At the foot of the castle stands the Slovak peasant house, built between 1880 and 1890, which has operated as a heritage house since 1971; it is furnished with objects from the turn of the century used by the Slovaks of Kisnána. The listed blacksmith’s workshop at the beginning of Kossuth utca can also be visited after prior arrangement.
