About the museum
AEMuseum is the space through which the AEM Foundation presents its historical heritage in a contemporary way; the heritage is linked to AEM, Milan's energy company. The museum offers an immersive route in which photographs, films, industrial relics and works from the art collections interact with digital installations, telling the story of the company from the origins of public lighting to its transformation into a Life Company, and its role in the industrialisation of Milan and of the country.
The visit begins with an immersive video on the epic of hydroelectric power and continues with a timeline of the company's century-long history. In the main room two multimedia installations are devoted to the photographic archive, with over 300 photographs by major 20th-century photographers, and to the film archive, with an interactive exhibit controlled by a cloche (control lever) that guides visitors through the content, and a small cinema whose programme is updated every six months.
During the Corporate Culture Week (Settimana della Cultura d'Impresa) a new museum area of about 200 square metres was inaugurated, with four interactive exhibits (two LED walls on sustainable development and energy poverty, a totem, an educational hub and a digital periscope that lets visitors “fly” over the headquarters and AEM's historic sites) and a section for young people linked to the European project Let's Act!. The museum is part of the Museimpresa network and the European ERIH circuits.
