About the museum
The Medieval Village was built for the Italian General Exhibition of 1884 in Turin, with the aim of presenting the medieval architecture and art of Piedmont and the Aosta Valley. The team of designers was led by Alfredo d’Andrade, an architect and archaeologist of Portuguese origin.
The Borgo is a picturesque village on the banks of the Po, in the Parco del Valentino, which reconstructs more than forty civic, defensive and noble buildings of the late Middle Ages. The Rocca, which forms its museum part, reproduces a 15th-century fortified residence with the guards’ hall, the kitchens, the baron’s chamber, the throne room and a chapel with frescoes copied from those of the abbey of Sant’Antonio di Ranverso. The route ends in the medieval garden, laid out in 1998.
The complex is closed to the public for requalification works funded by the PNRR (Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan), within the project “Torino, il suo parco, il suo fiume: memoria e futuro”; the official website does not give a reopening date.
