About the museum

The CAM – Casoria Contemporary Art Museum was founded in 2005 by Antonio Manfredi, who is still its general director. It is based in Casoria, in the province of Naples, in a building of about 2,000 square metres, 1,800 of which are dedicated to the permanent display. It presents itself as a dynamic cultural hub and an experimental laboratory, conceived as a place of meeting and cultural exchange that stimulates research and education.

The permanent collection comprises about 1,500 works of painting, sculpture, photography, video, multimedia art and installations, largely created between 1998 and 2020, with an important nucleus of Neapolitan masters active from 1962 to 1998. The artists come from many countries in Europe, the Balkans, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, the Americas and Oceania. Works from the temporary exhibitions are then acquired through donations from the artists, and the rooms are rehung on a rotating basis.

Among the most distinctive holdings are one of the largest European collections of multimedia art, as well as Eastern, African and Balkan art, and the most complete collection of contemporary Neapolitan artists from the post-war period to today. In the Villa Comunale di Casoria there are also twelve monumental sculptures created during the sculpture symposium of 2004.
