About the museum
The house at Sant'Andrea in Percussina belonged to the family of Niccolò Machiavelli. After his exile from Florence in 1512, the writer retired here and, according to tradition, wrote “Il Principe” (The Prince). In his letter to Francesco Vettori of 10 December 1513 he describes daily life at the Albergaccio inn, connected to the house.
After Machiavelli's death the property passed to his heirs and then to the Serristori family. Today it belongs to the Gruppo Italiano Vini, which restored it.
The complex includes the rooms of the villa with the library, the cellars and, through an underground passage, the Albergaccio inn. Online listings indicate guided visits and tastings.
