About the museum
The building, of medieval origin, stands in the historic centre of Saluzzo, just outside the 13th-century city walls, and is the house in which the writer Silvio Pellico was born on 25 June 1789. Author of “Le mie prigioni” (My Prisons), Pellico is one of the leading figures of the Italian literary Risorgimento.
The core of the collections consists of manuscripts, letters, poems, plays and personal objects that Pellico's sister Giuseppina gave to the Comune di Saluzzo in 1858. The rooms host an introductory video about the author and reproductions of the title pages of the many editions of “Le mie prigioni”.
On the first floor a neoclassical room reconstructs the writer's study with his desk; among the memorabilia are also his glasses and a painting showing Pellico and Maroncelli leaving Venice for Spielberg. The rooms on the ground floor are accessible by wheelchair.
