About the museum

The Casa Studio di Quinto Martini (1908–1990) is in Seano, in the municipality of Carmignano, a few steps from the Parco Museo that houses his bronze sculptures. Martini, the son of farmers, began modelling animals from the mud of the fields and in 1926 met Ardengo Soffici, who recognised his talent and became his teacher. His works tell of the vitality of the land, the poetry of nature and rural life.

The municipality of Carmignano bought the house in 2009, and in 2016 the heirs donated the works. After restoration, the house was opened as a museum in December 2020 and today, together with the Parco Museo, forms the Museo Diffuso Quinto Martini. The most striking room is the veranda converted into a studio, overlooking the hills that the artist portrayed in many works.

The house holds over a thousand works, including wall paintings, sculptures, paintings and drawings, and it is the only one among the houses belonging to the Associazione Nazionale Case della Memoria to hold such a large quantity of the artist's works. It also contains all the plaster models from which the 36 bronze casts of the park were made, and a series of plaster portraits of writers, artists and intellectuals of twentieth-century Florence. Conservation is carried out in collaboration with the Opificio delle Pietre Dure.
