About the museum
Casa Todde is a large 19th-century residence at the entrance to Villasimius, which was called Carbonara until 1862. It was built by the Cagliari landowner Giuseppe Todde and is laid out on two floors: the owner lived on the upper floor, while the kitchen, pantry and storerooms were on the ground floor. The building opens onto a walled courtyard with a well, cellars, grain stores and rooms for maturing cheese.
In 1899 part of the house was turned into a Carabinieri barracks, with offices, living quarters and cells that are still visible today. In the 1960s the Carabinieri moved to the centre of the village; the Comune later restored the building and set up there the headquarters of the Area Marina Protetta.
Since 2017 the house has hosted the Museo del Mare, named after Giorgio Capai, with the Capai-Pusceddu collection of more than 700 pieces: numerous wooden elements, furnishings and navigation instruments gathered over years of travel. The route includes documentaries on the Area Marina Protetta and a room with a giant screen where a 3D film made by the AMP is shown.
