About the museum
The MuA – Museo e Archivio Sinnai is located in the historic centre of Sinnai, in via Colletta, in the sociocultural centre named after Monsignor Perra. The civic museum brings together an archaeological section and a municipal picture gallery. The town's historical archive, in piazza Municipio, completes the cultural offer.
The archaeological section was born from excavations and surface surveys carried out in the territory since 1994, and documents human settlement from the 4th millennium BC to the 8th century AD. The display is arranged by function and use of the objects rather than chronologically. It illustrates productive activities, domestic life, personal care, architecture and the sacred sphere. Among the finds stand out a Punic statuette of the god Bes, ceramics from the site of Bruncu Mogumu and materials from the Santa Itroxia nuraghe.
The picture collection is based on the bequest of Canon Cesare Perra to the Comune di Sinnai in 1979, and consists mainly of works by Sardinian artists of the 20th century in painting, drawing and printmaking, as well as sacred art from the 17th to the 19th century. One section is dedicated to the Piedmontese painter Franco d’Aspro, born in Mondovì in 1911. The arrangement of the art collection changes every six months.
