About the museum
The museum was founded in the early 1980s through the meeting of Guido Scaramagli, a farmer and collector of rural traditions, and the Ethnographic Centre of the Municipality of Ferrara. The partnership between private initiative and the public body made it possible to expand the spaces and displays over time, making it one of the most important institutions of its kind in the region.
The collection documents work and life in the countryside from the late 19th century to the first half of the 20th century and comprises more than 30,000 objects. The route recreates a rural village with the shops and businesses of the community, including a tavern, grocery, school, bakery, barber, tailor and bank, as well as a farmhouse with kitchen, bedroom and dining room.
Other sections present vintage farm machinery, travelling trades, means of transport for people and farm produce, and a collection of more than one hundred puppets with backdrops, scripts and stage equipment. The museum also aims to be a meeting place for different generations and publishes the annual magazine “'Na Ciacaràda”.
